CEDARVILLE Greg Hannay set a meet record in the javelin
and sprinter Mark Farris won two events to lead the home side to the
team title in the Yellow Jacket Collegiate Open.
Hannay unloaded the javelin 59.54 meters (195-4) to set
the new meet standard and also reached the NCAA Division II provisional
mark. His effort is the fourth best all-time at Cedarville behind the
top three owned by his father, Scott.
Farris was a double winner. He took the 200 meters in 22.19 seconds as well as the 400 in 50.34.

went 1-2-3 in the 5,000 meters. Joe Niemiec won it in 15:27.06 and was
followed by teammates Neil Klinger (15:31.45) and Ryan Gustafson
(15:39.20).
Corey Caldwell won the 110 meter hurdles with an NCAA
Division II provisional qualifying time of 14.62 seconds. He was the
runner-up in the 400 meter hurdles (55.98).
Sam LeMaster won the shot put at 15.16m (49-9), was
second in the hammer (47.42m; 155-7), and placed third in the discus
(40.86m; 134-1).
CU’s other win came from Jacob Walter in the 10K in 34:04.23. Jon Van Dyke was second in 34:55.40.
Matt Cheney was the runner-up in the 1,500 meters
(4:05.76) and was third in the 800 (2:01.93). Rob Ames was second in the
high jump (1.89m; 6-2.25) while Josh Lusk was third (1.82m; 5-11.50).
Daniel Scott was the pole vault runner-up at 3.80 meters (12-5.50).
The Yellow Jackets coasted to the team championship with
204 points. Ohio Dominican was next at 114 points followed by
Wittenberg with 104.
Lady winter jackets for men earn first place at Cedarville Open
CEDARVILLE — Depth was the difference as the Cedarville women repeated as champions in the Yellow Jacket Collegiate Open.
The Lady Jackets won seven events to go along with seven runner-up finishes and six third-place showings.
Cedarville went 1-2-3 in two events. Anna Schmid won the
400 meter hurdles in 1:06.79 and was followed by Christina Gall
(1:08.96) and Valerie Kirk (1:09.33).
Beth Jones claimed the triple jump at 11.20 meters
(36-9) with teammates Mackenzie McMahan (10.62m; 34-10.25) and Rachel
Herrera (10.28m; 33-8.75) right behind.
Meghan Terrell won the 3,000 meter steeplechase in
11:31.28 while Alexandra Archambault was the runner-up in 12:12.00.
Rachel McKinley took first in the 5,000 meters in 18:54.61 and Hannah
Brooker was second in 19:03.73.
Anna Pomento won the discus with a heave of 41.24 meters
(135-4) and Nicole Deneseus was a winner in the high jump at 1.57
meters (5-1.75). The remaining victory came from the 4 x 400 meter relay
squad of Gall, Kirk, Schmid, and Joy Santos in 4:08.26.
Elsewhere, Jones was second in the long jump (5.22m;
17-1.50) and McMahan was third (5.05m; 16-7). Santos was the runner-up
in the 400 meters in 1:01.68 and Kirk was third in the 100 meter hurdles
in 15.33 seconds.
Neola Putnam took second in the 1,500 meters in 4:52.84
and was third in the 800 in 2:23.16. Abby Bonnevie placed third in the
pole vault at 2.75 meters (9-0.25).
Cedarville won the nine-team meet with 256 points.
Wright State was the runner-up with 226 points and Wittenberg was third
at 69.
Second annual Baseball vs. Cancer game held
FAIRBORN — The Wright State baseball team hosted their
second annual Wright State Baseball vs. Cancer game on Saturday, March
30, in conjunction with their series finale with Youngstown State at
Nischwitz Stadium.
After the game, members of the team, other Wright State
student-athletes and fans had their heads shaved by stylists from
Tavernier Salon on the new Concourse of Championship to raise awareness
for childhood career. In addition to shaving their heads, the team
colleced donations in support of the Vs. Cancer Foundation and Dayton
Children’s Medical Center leading up to and at the game. Altogether, the
team raised a total of $5,003 for childhood cancer research. Sophomore
pitcher Jack Van Horn led the players with a total of $550 while
associate head coach Greg Lovelady led all donations at $596. Senior
players Garrett Gray and Cody Kopilchack had the opportunity to shave
head coach Rob Cooper’s head.
WSU track finishes second at Yellow Jacket Open
CEDARVILLE — Behind eight first-place finishes, the Wright State track team placed second at the mens overcoat Yellow Jacket Open Saturday at Cedarville.
Kacia Grant won the 100 and 200 meter dashes, setting a
new meet record in both events, and also anchored the 4×100 team to a
meet and track record. Brittany Bailey won the 1500 meter run, Jessica
Berry the pole vault, Sarah-Ann Blount the long jump and Maria Harrison
in the shot put and hammer throw.
Second-place finishers included Bailey in the 800 meter
run, Blount in the 100 meter hurdles, Harrison in the discus throw,
Natassia Roberts in the hammer throw and Brooke McCurdy in the javelin
throw.
Wright State returns to action at the Miami Invitational in Oxford April 5-6.
